Surviving Summer in India: My Top Hydration Hacks for Travelers

By Zeba Kohli

Hello, fellow travellers! As someone who’s spent countless summers exploring the vibrant and diverse landscapes of India, I know firsthand how intense the heat can be. But don’t let that scare you away! With a few simple tips, you can stay hydrated and enjoy every moment of your adventure. Here are my favourite hydration hacks to help you stay cool and refreshed while travelling in India.

1.Always Carry a Reusable Water Bottle

First things first, I never leave home without my trusty reusable water bottle. It’s eco-friendly and ensures I always have water on hand. Plus, refilling it at safe water sources helps me stay green and hydrated. Pro tip: Look for water stations at airports, hotels, and popular tourist spots.

2. Sip on Fresh Coconut Water (Nariyal Paani)

One of my absolute favourites is fresh coconut water, or nariyal paani. It’s nature’s perfect drink, packed with electrolytes to keep you hydrated. Plus, it’s delicious! You can easily find it at roadside vendors across India. Whenever I spot a vendor, I grab a coconut and savor the refreshing taste.

3. Snack on Water-Rich Fruits

I love snacking on fruits like watermelon and cucumbers, especially during the summer. They’re not just tasty but also packed with water to keep you hydrated. Carrying them as snacks is a great way to stay refreshed while on the go. Trust me, a slice of juicy watermelon on a hot day is pure bliss!

4.Use ORS (Oral Rehydration Solution)

Another lifesaver I swear by is ORS packets. These little packets help replenish lost salts and minerals, which is super important in the heat. Just mix one with water and drink up. It’s a simple and effective way to stay hydrated, especially if you’re spending a lot of time outdoors.

5. Enjoy Local Drinks

India has some amazing local drinks like sugarcane juice and buttermilk that are perfect for beating the heat. These drinks are not only hydrating but also bursting with flavour. I never miss a chance to enjoy a cold glass of sugarcane juice or a refreshing lassi while exploring the local markets.

Stay Cool and Hydrated!

Staying hydrated is key to enjoying your summer travels in India. Whether it’s sipping on fresh coconut water or snacking on juicy watermelon, these tips will help you stay cool and refreshed.
